Cindy Anderson has been volunteering with the Selma Art Guild for almost one year.
An artist herself, she usually paints acrylic and multi-medium or textured paintings, however she enjoys watercolor and oil pastels as well.
Anderson said her inspiration usually comes from her feelings and emotions at the time.
Even though she has a degree in the arts and sciences, Anderson did not start her artistic career until later in life.
“I began scrapbooking in 2007 which led to stamping,” she said. “I started playing around with painting in 2014. Here I am now, still pushing through with painting and learning different techniques and styles.”
Anderson volunteers with the organization whenever she is needed.
“I visit with the patrons the Art Guild and educate them on the Art Guild, the artists and their work,” she said. “I assist with sales, monthly meetings, shows and other events that take place at the art guild.”
Anderson said since volunteering at the Art Guild her sense of creativity has been renewed, and she is motivated to carry on her vision in both her personal and professional life.
“It keeps me mentally stimulated and provides a sense of purpose, which is good for my mind and body. It increases my self-confidence,” she said. “Volunteering also keeps me connected to others in the community by increasing my social and relationship skills. It helps advance my career as an artist by increasing my job skills and brings joy and fulfillment to my life.”
