Crosspoint Christian Preschool and Childcare staff and students showed their love to the Selma Police Department (SPD) and an officer who was injured in an ambush shooting on Sunday.
“one of our students here at the preschool is the child of the officer that was shot on Sunday,” said Sarah Wilkinson, a teacher at Crosspoint. “It really affected all of us here at the preschool because they have been here for four years and we wanted to show the police officers that we have support for them and to give back to them and to basically Back the Blue. We made a sign and took a banner to them and each student had their handprints put on and made them boxes of candy.”
She started here when she was one and she’s four now,” said Sharon Moore Reid, the co-director of Crosspoint’s childcare. “We have been pretty close to that family. She’s been good. She doesn’t really know the extent of what happened. She is a smart girl, and she is around people that love her.”
Wilkinson said this is an opportunity to teach the students about the importance of police officers.
“You hear a lot of negativity about police officers and law enforcement,” said Wilkinson. “Our biggest thing is to love one another and as a community, we can give back to those who have helped us. Our biggest thing was to learn that these are officers who protect us on a day to day basis and show them our appreciation for what they do for us. They are one of the best families that I have ever known.”
