Valley Grande Elementary School was the only new business discussed at Valley Grande’s City Council meeting on Monday night at its city hall.

Valley Grande Elementary was recently chosen as an Alabama Bicentennial school and received a $2,000 grant to support a year-long project designed to strengthen connections between campus and their communities. The school’s project is to create a miniature community library.

Erika Crum, Valley Grande Elementary Principal, requested the city council support the library in possibly two different locations.  She wasn’t present at the council meeting.

The council discussed that one library could be put at city hall and the one placed at the Valley Grande park.

“It’s a community involved project,” Dobbs said.

Valley Grande City Clerk Janet Frasier said she plans to meet with Crum in the next couple of days to talk about the project.

The council approved spending $3,400 on replacing and posting its city signs. Council member Ronald Sawyer said some of the signs have become worn out.

Among the old business items discussed from the Oct. 1 meeting was Dallas County’s 200^th Bicentennial celebration at Old Cahawba in Orrville.

Frasier represented the city council at the event and said she enjoyed herself.

Dobbs also said he and Boyd Pugh, the city’s Public Safety Director, looked into possibly adding more hydrants in the future.

“You can never have enough hydrants,” Dobbs said.

The next Valley Grande city council meeting will be held on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall.
