Morgan sophomore hit by car

A Morgan Academy sophomore who was struck by a car Friday afternoon appears to have only suffered “a few bumps and bruises,” according to Public Information Officer John Reese with the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

According to reports, Heather Demark, 16, was attempting to cross the road at around 2:01 p.m. to catch a ride after her car had broken down.

“Someone had apparantly come to pick her up and she never saw the car coming,” Reese said. “She stepped out onto the road and that’s when she was struck.”

The accident occurred on Ala. Hwy. 22 in Valley Grande. The car that struck Demark was a 2009 Nissan Altima heading west into Selma from Valley Grande.

The accident is still under investigation.
