A pair of Morgan Academy volleyball standouts made the AISA All-Star team.
Seniors Meredith Hand and Laney Holladay were selected to play in Saturday’s All-Star game on Saturday at the Cramton Bowl Multi-Plex in Montgomery. They will be playing for the West All-Stars against an East team.
The duo have played volleyball for five years at Morgan Academy, setting the example for their teammates on and off the court, said Lady Senators coach Kayla Thacker.
“Our team looked to Meredith and Laney for their leadership and tough matches to keep them focused,” Thacker said.
Over the last three years, they helped lead the Lady Senators to a record of 48-18, one Region Championship, and two trips to the “Elite 8” in the AISA playoffs.
Meredith Hand, a co-Captain, has led Morgan Academy in assists the last two years from the “setter” position, with 229 total assists. She also had 24 kills in her career.
Laney Holladay earned All-Star recognition as an outside hitter. In the last three years, she has 120 kills to go along with 53 serving aces.
Thacker said Morgan Academy is one of only two schools with two All-Star volleyball players in the game.
“For us to have more than one player in the All-Star game speaks about Morgan Academy volleyball,” Thacker said. “The other coaches picked them. Nobody can take that away from them.”
Thacker also said that Hand and Holladay are strong represenatives for the Lady Senators at Saturday’s contest.
“They will represent Morgan Academy well,” Thacker said. “Having them make the All-Star team is important to them, important to our school and important to the community.”
After graduating from Morgan Academy this season, both will attend Auburn University.
