The Selma Center for Nonviolence is hosting a nonpartisan election rally on the steps of historic Tabernacle Baptist Church on Monday, Nov. 5 beginning at 3:30 p.m.

“We can’t be born, breathe or be buried without the influence of voting and politics,” said Ainka Jackson, Director of the Selma Center of Nonviolence said. “Withholding your vote because you feel that the system is hopeless does not stop politicians from making decisions about your life. Your vote matters. Do your homework, and then vote Tuesday like your life depends upon it because it does. Then work and hold leaders accountable like your community depends upon it because it does.”

Local and regional leaders will be speaking at the rally. $5 gift cards will be given to the first 100 people to arrive, according to Jackson.

“Every vote is truly equal to every other vote,” said Jackson. “Regardless of age, gender, race, status and more, every vote counts. Come to the rally on Monday at Tabernacle Baptist Church to hear how your vote counts and can make a real difference.”

Tabernacle Baptist Church is located at 1431 Broad St. in Selma.
