Jane Simmerman was welcomed into the arms of her Savior as she passed peacefully into eternity from this life on October 24, 2018, just four days from her 92nd birthday. She was born in St. Louis. Jane had a full, productive, and patriotic life. She was happily married for 65 years to a career USAF veteran. She served as a WAVE in WWII, was in U.S. Civil Service for 30 years, and worked for the Selma Police Department for 10 years. She and her late husband, Wade, lived in Selma for 40 years. Both were faithful members of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, formerly First Presbyterian Church of Selma. At the death of her husband in 2016, she moved to live with son, Jeff, and family in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
She is preceded by her husband, Wade Simmerman, and her eldest son, James Simmerman. She is survived by her son, Jeff Simmerman, daughter-in-law, Shelley, grandchildren, David, Sarah, James, Elizabeth, Rebekah, and Joshua Simmerman, and several great-grandchildren.
The celebration for Jane’s life and home going will be observed November 8, 2018 at Gospel Light Baptist Church, 20440 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70817. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and the memorial service will be at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Gospel Light Baptist Church Land fund, a ministry Jane loved and supported. Donations can be made at the address listed above or online at www.glbcbr.com/giving.
