Dan Lane doesn’t call himself the Fire Chief at Craig Volunteer Fire Department.

“My job duties are to manage the Craig Fire Department and work as a training officer,” Lane said humbly.

Lane has worked with Craig VFD for 14 years, including the last eight as a training officer. He also works at Craig Field Airport and Industrial Authority, serving as its Operations Manager and Coordinator.

Being a firefighter is a role Lane enjoys.

“I like the fact that I get an adrenalin rush and I get to help people at the same time,” Lane said. “I’m also responsible and ensure everyone is trained and I run the day to day operations.”

Lane describes a typical day at Craig VFD, which consists of 15 members.

“We go over paperwork and have two-hour training sessions members receive throughout the year,” Lane said.

Lane said he also enjoys working at Craig Field and is looking forward to seeing what happens at the facility in 2019.

Lane is very active outside the Craig VFD. He’s an elder at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.

“Not only can I put out fires, I can pray for you too,” Lane joked.

Lane is a Selma native. He graduated from Selma High School in 1998 and has two sons: Daniel and Kenneth.
