Dallas County Sheriff Department Deputy Bill Hamner is alerting the public of an organization currently soliciting funds from the public.

Hamner, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), said that an organization known as the National Police Support Fund (NPSF) is currently soliciting donations.

Hamner wants the public to know that the NPSF is not associated with the FOP in any way.

“I don’t want to say anything bad about it,” Hamner said. “But it is not affiliated with the FOP.”

While Hamner said he’s not sure whether the organization has been leading donors to believe it is associated with the FOP, nor if it has contacted Dallas County residents to secure donations, he said it is important for tax reasons for people to know that the organization is a political action committee supporting a specific agenda.

According to the NPSF’s website, the group is “dedicated to promoting the interests of law enforcement officers within the national political process.” The group overwhelmingly supports conservative candidates and issues throughout the country.

The FOP, by contrast, is a fraternal organization of “sworn law enforcement officers” across the nation. It is the largest organization for law enforcement officers in the world with more than 330,000 members.
