Selma has been recognized again for a valuable pillar in our community.

To many cities, KFC is just another restaurant that someone can get chicken and sides, but to Selma, the KFC restaurant is a business that is involved in the community and gives back to the citizens.

Owner Mark Woodson is invested in Selma and Dallas County and it reflects with the amount of time that the restaurant is represented at the events in the city.

We need more businesses like this in our town.

It is important to support everything locally because it keeps money in our community, which is something we desperately need.

On Wednesday, Woodson was recognized as a finalist for the Business Council of Alabama (BCA) and the Alabama Chamber of Commerce Association as a finalist in this year’s statewide “Small Business of the Year” competition.

We are glad that something local is part of the BCA.

Since the BCA’s beginning in 1985, the group has worked hard to improve Alabama’s business client.

The BCA was instrumental in reforms in the areas of tax credits for small business, job creation, incentives for economic development, ethics reform and positive changes in the public education system, according to the BCA site.

We need all of these improvements across the board, and we are glad that KFC in Selma was recognized and part of the leadership that this organization brings.
