Students in Sherri Thomas’ seventh and eighth-grade Social Studies class at Tipton Durant Middle School have set an example by working to raise funds to help the homeless since the beginning of the school year in August.
This job took time and effort for the students to reach their goal but they persisted.
The project, known as the Face of Homelessness Community Service Project, has been in its third year and is used as a way of teaching the students the importance of giving and effects of homelessness.
People should learn from these students in giving back not only during the holiday season but all year.
This project will teach the students to be stewards of giving back to those less fortunate in their community.
We applaud Thomas for her efforts to teach the students a valuable lesson.
Teaching her students to be involved in the community and to be aware of problems in their community helps them prepare to be contributing members of society as an adult.
