Remembering MLK – King’s dream still alive

When Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, the world changed.
From there, King helped organize the Selma to Montgomery marches, which is still an impactful part of Selma today.
Everyday, people drive over the Edmund Pettus Bridge, which is part of our Selma history.
Even now, King’s dream of a better world is still alive. There are numerous groups throughout the city and the county that are working tirelessly to make Selma and Dallas County a better place.
On Monday, many places were closed giving many an extra day off work.
Let us not forget the efforts that King and the others have made to lay out the path of freedom and equality for so many that came after them.
Their sacrifice changed the world and still is.
We remember King on this day as a brave and honorable man who advanced the civil rights movement through nonviolent ways.
Let us never forget why we celebrate this day.
