Selma-Dallas County Environmental Services Director Larry Friday has retired.

Friday retires after serving 42 years in the position.

At a future Dallas County Commission meeting, Friday will receive a retirement plaque. Selma Mayor Darrio Melton told the City Council on Jan. 22 that he had plans to acknowledge Friday.

The last three Dallas County Commissioners Friday worked under were Johnny Jones, Kim Ballard and a few weeks under Jimmy Nunn. Friday said that he enjoyed working with the Dallas County Commission.

“It was easy because the commission was behind me 100 percent,” Friday said.

Nunn recalled working with Friday when he was Selma’s City Attorney for 18 years. He was also the city’s landfill director.

“I appreciate everything you’ve done for the city and the county,” Nunn said. “You’re a man of your word and you’re humble.”

“Mr. Friday, you’re a mild-mannered guy, I thank you for getting the job in Dallas County,” Commissioner Curtis Williams said.

Commissioners Roy Moore and Ray Nickles also praised Friday.

“Thank you for serving us,” Nickles said. “Even when you weren’t here, you got things moving in the right direction.”

“We appreciate what you’ve done for Dallas County,” Moore said.
