Our ‘last chance’ – U.S. Attorney needs our support

This may be Selma’s last chance,” U.S. Attorney Richard Moore said at the Public Safety Committee meeting on Wednesday night.

The phrase still echoes in people’s ears today as Moore announced the first steps in a “wed and seed” program.

This program addresses an issue that while criminals are arrested in Selma, at least two or three pop up to take the place of the one in jail.

This is where Moore’s program will help.

The “weed” portion of the agenda requires that law enforcement get criminals off the street; the “seed” portion of the agenda requires the community coming together to ensure that another batch of criminals don’t pop up.

Moore is right when he says that we can’t prosecute our way out of this problem.

The time for change was here a long time ago, and Moore needs our support in this endeavor.

Participants are needed for the group that Moore is forming, and it all depends on community involvement.

It all depends on us.

We are Selma’s last chance to make a difference. It is time for us to step up.
