The Selma Police Department (SPD) will host “Coffee with a Cop” on Tuesday, March 26 at 8:30 a.m. at The Coffee Shoppe located at 308 Broad Street.
“Coffee with a Cop” is a national program that began in 2011 by Hawthorne, California Police Department. Over the past eight years, the program has spread rapidly and been enacted by police department across the country.
“Coffee with a Cop is on a mission to improve trust and build relationships one cup of coffee at a time,” said Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier
Collier brought the program to Selma last month and plans to hold the event on a monthly basis at a different restaurant in the community.
“Coffee with a Cop brings police officers and the community members they serve together to discuss issues and learn more about each other over a cup of coffee,” said Collier. “Our goal is to establish trust with our community and additionally remove any barriers or misconceptions.”
Coffee with a Cop is an informal event with no agenda or speakers. Multiple SPD officers will be at the event to better get to know members of the community and answer any questions they might have.
