The Old Depot Museum will host it’s Sixth Annual Low Country Boil this Thursday at 6 p.m.

According to Old Depot Museum Director Beth Spivey, the event draws crowds of around 400 people every year.

The annual Low Country Boil features all-you-can-eat shrimp, crawfish and Kentucky Fried Chicken as well as live music from The Back Door Band, a Cajun music group from Louisiana.

Not only is the annual Low Country Boil a great time, it’s also a benefit for the Old Depot Museum.

“It’s my biggest fundraiser every year,” said Spivey. “It’s really my only fundraiser.”

Spivey says that 100 percent of the proceeds collected from Low Country Boil go directly back into the funding of the Old Depot Museum.

The annual event means a lot to Spivey.

“If I did this every year and lost money on it, I’d still enjoy it,” said Spivey, “But the fact that this fundraiser is successful enough to allow me to keep doing what I’m doing is great.”

Spivey runs much of the day-to-day operations of the museum herself, the Low Country Boil allows her to raise enough money to run the museum efficiently.

“Everybody comes together to support a great cause, which preserves Selma’s rich history,” Spivey said.

The Low Country Boil is at 6 p.m. at the Old Depot Museum. Tickets are $40 and must be purchased ahead of time. Spivey says the event is nearly sold out. To purchase a ticket, visit the Old Depot Museum during regular hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
