The Black Belt Community Foundation (BBCF) is calling on groups and organizations based in or serving Selma and Dallas County to apply for one-year grants to fund community projects related to Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT).

“We are happy to announce the second TRTH re-granting cycle within less than a year after the first cycle,” said BBCF President Felecia Lucky. “With an increased budget of $50,000 for this round, we hope to be able to aid more community groups whose work addresses truth, racial healing and lasting, sustainable transformation for our communities in Selma and Dallas County.”

The selected programs will become part of the overall implementation of BBCF’s work with the Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth and Reconciliation (CNTR) and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

BBCF and Selma CNTR are partnering with 13 other TRHT initiatives across the nation.

In December, BBCF awarded roughly $25,000 in funding to six organizations during its first round of TRHT grants, which included work by Selma City Schools to address the school-to-prison pipeline and the art project on Water Avenue sponsored by ArtsRevive.

This round of grants will range in awards from $500 to $5,000, based on the decision of the grants committee, and will total about $50,000.

Applicants must attend one of the following workshops to be eligible for a grant:

  • April 9 – 6:30 p.m. at the BBCF office at 609 Lauderdale St.
  • April 11 – 6 p.m. at the Sardis Unity Fellowship Community Center at 8144 County Road 30 in Sardis
  • April 23 – 6:30 p.m. at the BBCF office at 609 Lauderdale St.
  • April 25 – 6 p.m. at the Selma City Chambers at 222 Broad St.

Applicants will also be required to attend at least one racial equity training course, the first of which will be held April 6 at 10 a.m. at the Selma CNTR office at 8 Mulberry Rd.
