Selma City Schools’ FBLA groups compete at State Leadership Conference

The School of Discovery Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America, Inc. (FBLA) competed on April 11-12 at the State Leadership Conference in Birmingham, along with R. B. Hudson’s FBLA Middle Level Chapter.
Although the School of Discovery (SOD) did not advance to National competition, two teams placed in the top four for the category of Critical Thinking — Jaylen Marshall and Javiell Reeves, placed third and Azali Fortier and Aamir Hicks placed fourth.
There were 19 SOD FBLA members competing with five students testing in Business Etiquette, Financial Literacy, Digital Literacy and Career Exploration; five students competing with Community Service presentations, six members competing in Critical Thinking and three students competing in the Elevator Speech category.
The SOD Chapter was awarded the Outstanding Chapter Level for completing the National and State Blueprint for Success for the Middle Level grades sixth through eighth. The SOD chapter was also recognized for the second largest Middle Level Membership of 37 members in FBLA State District III, which includes the Mobile area; and, the chapter was recognized by the State FBLA and March of Dimes for its $500 donation.
Two students, Ke’Shaye Savage and Alonziahrose Jones, were recognized for logging over 50 hours of community service and 14 students achieved the Bronze Level Pin for LEAD, a three-tier membership recognition program developed exclusively for FBLA-Middle Level members. The LEAD (Leadership Education Achievement Development) program focuses on recruitment, national programs, and leadership.
R.B. Hudson had 12 members to participate at the State FBLA Leadership Conference; and they earned recognition for “Outstanding Blueprint Design” and for their March of Dimes contribution. Members also earned ribbons in over a dozen areas such as Blueprint for Success, Dress for Success, Community Service, FBLA Publicity, March of Dimes, Celebrate FBLA Week, JLDA Attendance, Foundation Donor, District 3 Workshop, LEAD Bronze, and NFLC Attendee. Hudson had three students to achieved Bronze Level Pin for LEAD.
Selma High’s FBLA Chapter received the “2019 Outstanding Chapter Award” and the “2019 March of Dimes $1,000 Club Award” for their donation given to the State March of Dime campaign.
Jalea Brown won fourth place in the Help Desk competition, and she will compete at the FBLA National Competition that will be held June 29-July 2 in San Antonio.
