Top-ranked Morgan Academy used the long ball to close its second-round AISA baseball series against Macon-East.
Brayton Brown and Gunnar Henderson combined for three homers as the Senators cruised to a 13-4 victory in Game 2 on Friday.
The unbeaten Senators (26-0) will host a third-round AISA playoff series on Wednesday.
“I’m proud of the kids, it’s one of our best wins of the year,” Senators coach Stephen Clements said. “We had a total team effort.”
Brayton Brown homered twice, hitting a three-run blast and a solo homer. He finished with three hits on the game.
“They kept pitching me inside, but once I got a good pitch to hit, I made them pay,” Brown said.
Late in the game, Henderson smacked a three-run homer well over the Senators’ 348-foot centerfield wall. Stephens estimated the homer was over 425 feet.
Henderson finished with two hits, four RBI and a pair of stolen bases.
Jeremy Lee pitched a complete game, striking out 10 batters. The Senators’ starting quarterback struggled at times, but he didn’t allow big innings by the Knights (27-13). At the plate, Lee had a sacrifice fly.
The Senators raced out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and they appeared headed toward a run-rule victory.
The Knights scored twice in the fourth and fifth innings to avoid a shutout.
Morgan Academy delivered the knockout punch with four runs in the seventh, capped by Henderson’s three-run homer.
