Doc on the Spot Community Care Clinic set up shop in Orrville on Friday in order to provide medical care to an underserved community.
Doc on the Spot is a team effort consisting of the services provided by UAB Selma Family Medicine, UAB Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center (MHRC) and United Way of Selma and Dallas County.
The clinic provided free health services to the uninsured people of Orrville at a location that is much more accessible than the clinic in Selma.
It may only be 20 minutes to Selma from Orrville, but for those with limited transportation, that can be a huge obstacle between patients and the health care they need.
“We want to help people overcome the challenges that prevent them from being healthy,” said Tiffany Osborne, Director of Community Engagement for MHRC.
Tiffani Maycock, D.O. and Program Director at UAB Selma Family Medicine was eager to reach out to the MHRC and make Doc on the Spot a reality.
“When I heard about the MHRC I immediately wanted to find out more about them so I could work with them to do further research in helping Dallas County,” she said.
Jeff Cothran accredited the success of the program to the support of community partners.
“We wouldn’t be able to do this without the continued support of the community,” said Cothran.
