SHS Class of 2019 takes final steps

Cars filled with the family, friends and loved ones of the Selma High School (SHS) Class of 2019 filled the parking lot at Memorial Stadium Wednesday evening.
As the droves of supporters filled the bleachers at Memorial Stadium preparing to watch their beloved graduates recieve the diplomas they worked the last four years to achieve.
SHS Salutatorian Brittany Nelson expressed her gratitude for all of the supporters who helped her achieve her high school diploma, as well as her Salutatorian status.
She specifically thanked her parents and the parents of her friends for all of their help.
“I’d like to thank everyone for being just a phone call away whenever I needed them,” said Nelson.
Valedictorian Lakira Fails also thanked her parents, stating that without there encouagement ther’s no way she could have achieved the honor of Valedictorian.
The overlying theme of Fails’ speech was perserverance.
“Never give up,” she told her classmates.
The ceremony was also filled with other festivities such as a performance by the Selma High Choir and the presentation of awards by Selma City Schools Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams.
