Former Morgan Academy shortstop Gunnar Henderson has earned two national honors.
Henderson, a second-round pick of the Baltimore Orioles in the 2019 MLB Draft, was named first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, powered by Diamond Sports, and USA Today’s All-USA squad.
The 6-foot-3 Henderson continues to pile up individual honors. He was recently named The Selma Times-Journal’s player of the year. Henderson also captured Alabama’s Mr. Baseball, AISA player of the year, AISA hitter of the year and Gatorade player of the year in Alabama. He was also AISA basketball player of the year and AISA All-Star Basketball game MVP.
Henderson hit .559 with 11 homers, 17 doubles, nine triples and 75 RBI as the Senators (30-2) reached the AISA State Championship series.
Nominations for the prep All-Americans are submitted by the player’s high school coach and the staff of Collegiate Baseball chooses the honorees.
Henderson has until July 12 to notify Baltimore whether he’ll sign with the Orioles or enroll at Auburn.
