The Selma-Dallas County Public Library’s Sensational Selma Summer program continued yesterday morning with a performance from Mr. Bond the Science Man.

The library has kept the children of the Selma-Dallas County area entertained all summer with an array of activities and performances including a reptile show, petting zoo, puppet shows and a juggling performance.

Each day of the Sensational Selma Summer programs aims not only to entertain but to educate.

Bond taught the children at Thursday morning’s performance about gravity, different types of matter and electric currents.

Selma-Dallas County Public Library Director Becky Nichols believes that bringing in Bond was a great way to get the children interested in science.

“If the only thing that happens as a result of this is that students leave saying, ‘Science is fun,’ then this was a success,” said Nichols.

The children at Thursday’s show had plenty of chances to see for themselves just how fun science can be.

Bond brought up several of the children to participate in experiments and when it came time to volunteer, the arm of nearly every child in the audience was raised as high as it could be.

The children shrieked with delight as they tried to defy gravity by jumping into the air, bubbles were made with dry ice and rockets were flung across the room with electric currents.
