The City of Valley Grande spared no expense this Fourth of July for their annual fireworks display at Valley Grande City Park.

Valley Grande, once again, hired ARC Pyrotechnics out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to put on the fireworks show.

“They’ve done it the last several years and they always do a really great job,” said Valley Grande Mayor Matt Dobbs.

Before Thursday’s show began, Dobbs made an effort to thank everyone in attendance for their support, including the Valley Grande Volunteer Fire Department and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, both of which volunteered to help out with the event.

Dobbs also stressed the importance of recognizing the true meaning of Fourth of July.

“Our independence and who we are as Americans is what this day is all about,” said Dobbs.

Dobbs wasn’t the only Valley Grande city official at Thursday’s celebration. The entire Valley Grande City Council, Tim White, Ronald Sawyer, Lamar Morgan, Tammy Troha and Jimmy Johnson, also came out to support the community and view the spectacle.

There was more than fireworks to keep the crowd entertained at last night’s show.

Dixie Country was there to provide music as the crowd began to trickle in around 7 p.m.

Concessions were also open to provide folks with typical Fourth of July fare like hotdogs, hamburgers, ice cream and cold drinks.

Spectators even had the opportunity to pay for a helicopter ride in a red, white and blue helicopter that was landed at the park.

When the sun finally went down at 9 p.m. and the event everyone had restlessly been waiting for began.

The sky was lit up with red, white and blue explosions for about a half an hour as the crowd below watched in amazement.

After the show was over the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office directed everyone safely out of Valley Grande City Park and back out onto Highway 80.
