As Aug. 3 approaches, participants are still needed for the Selma City Schools’ Aim for Excellence 5K.
Race Coordinator Jill Burt said last year’s race was an outstanding experience and Selma City Schools Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams said last year that more than 100 people showed up to the event.
“Many of our principals attended, families, and we even had a couple of stroller joggers out there,” she said.
The proceeds raised during the event will benefit the city schools. Williams said this was a way to earn additional money for the schools.
“If we have schools that are having special events and need some additional funding this would be there to support our teachers and our schools,” she said.
The school district is also seeking sponsors for this year’s race. “We believe that our efforts would go even further with community organizations partnering with us as official event sponsors,” said Community Engagement Specialist Courtney Washington.
Support for our schools can be achieved with participation in this race.
