Salem Elementary School will host its 1st Annual Back to School Bash this Saturday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Salem Elementary Principal Chinita Irby said that the event is the perfect way to bridge the gap between the school and the community.
“The goal of the event is to bridge the gap between the community and the school,” said Irby. “Without the support of the community we wouldn’t be us.”
The afternoon of fun includes inflatables, carnival food, prize drawings, hair braiding and haircuts.
In addition to an array of activities, several guests from the Selma-Dallas County Community will be in attendance including Clifford Hunter from the Selma Career Center, District Attorney Michael Jackson, Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum and Janice Simms from the Family Sunshine Center.
Irby said that the support all of the guests, including high profile members of the community, is crucial in making the teachers students supported.
“Having all of the special guests is great,” Irby said. “It really demonstrates to our children that they are supported.”
Students and parents not only have fun activities and special guests to look forward to but free school supplies as well.
Irby said the free supplies are crucial to the parents of students.
“The things they recieve here really cut down on the expense of things parents have to buy themselves,” she said.
Orrville Mayor Louvenia Lumpkin expressed her support for the event.
“There’s a lot of hardworking parents in Orrville,” she said. “But sometimes the bills are a little higher than the income. This program greatly helps out the parents of students by cutting down on things they have to buy themselves.”
