September is Hunger Action Month

This weekend starts September, which is Hunger Action Month- a month where people all over the nation stand against hunger and support the nationwide network of food banks.
In rural areas such as ours, hunger is a big issue.
According to Feeding America, 2.4 million rural households face hunger, three-quarters of the counties with the highest rares food insecurity are in rural areas and 86 percent of the counties with the highest rates of child food insecurity are rural.
These numbers are something we have heard at least once in our life. Many people in our area experience what is called food deserts where it is difficult to find good quality fresh food.
It is important to get involved with our local food bank this month and every month to help them stay stocked with foods necessary to feeding those that are in need.
