The Francis Marion Rams charged into Memorial field Friday night to challenge the Ellwood Christian Academy Eagles on their home turf.
Despite a strong effort from the Eagles, the Rams were the team to go home with another win on their record after beating the Eagles 48-6.
The Rams scored 20 points in the first quarter alone thanks to runs from Jay’Leon Edwards, 22 and another two runs plus a completed two point conversion from A’Meri Tubbs, 5.
The Rams continued their charge in the second quarter, putting an additional 14 points on the board.
The Eagles finally caught a break with 1:33 remaining in the first half.
An error by the Rams allowed Jacobie Smiley, 55, of the Eagles to recover a fumble and run the ball into the end zone, finally putting some points on the board for the Eagles.
The Eagles failed to complete the attempted two point conversion.
As both teams went to opposite ends of the field for half time, the score was 34-6, with the Rams taking a substantial lead.
The Eagles came out stronger on defense in the second half, allowing the Rams to score only two touchdowns and stopping both of the Rams attempts at two point conversions.
Eagles Coach Ray Blanks praised the Eagles defense and said that the teams picked up a lot more tackles in the second half and read the Rams offense much better.
“I saw a lot of improvement out there,” he said.
