Former Georgia head football coach Jim Donnan gave his opinion on the College Football Playoff landscape.
Donnan was the guest speaker at the Selma Quarterback Club on Monday at the Selma Convention Center. It was Donnan’s second time speaking to the QB club since 2015.
Donnan said the SEC could get two schools in the four-team playoff, naming Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Georgia as possibilities.
“I’m high on Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa,” Donnan said. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a collection of wide receivers like they have. Auburn beat Texas A&M on the road and beat Oregon in the opener, that’s two impressive wins. Auburn quarterback Bo Nix is mature for his age (18). Experience is so overrated.”
Donnan predicts defending national champion Clemson and either Ohio State or Oklahoma will get the other two playoff berths. He considers Clemson as the favorite to repeat.
“Until somebody beats Clemson, they have a good quarterback,” Donnan said. Ohio State has the former Georgia quarterback Justin Fields. Oklahoma has former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts.”
Donnan said he enjoys visiting Selma and speaking to the QB club.
“It’s good to be in the state of Alabama,” Donnan said. “The club does a good job giving out scholarships and the kids appreciate it.”
