Meadowview Christian School is getting a new headmaster.

Miriam Anderson, who is currently the Assistant Headmaster, will be announced during a presentation at 7:30 a.m. on Friday at Meadowview as the replacement for Dr. Michael Gaylor, who accepted a teaching position at St. James Academy in Montgomery.

“Sometime back, an individual who is now on the board made a statement to the paper (Selma Times-Journal) that he felt like the head (football) coach and headmaster position should be combined,” said Dr. Gaylor, who has been the headmaster at Meadowview for the past four years. “When he told me that I didn’t want to do that. I told him that I didn’t want to do that and I began looking for a new position.”

According to Gaylor, the workload of taking on both positions was the deciding factor in why he chose to decline the new combined position.

“It could be done,” said Gaylor. “You have to have the right people, you have to have the right people helping you, and frankly you need someone that lives here locally. I live in Clanton and occasionally like to see my wife.”

According to Anderson, the board had trouble finding candidates that qualified for the new combined position.

“The board searched for a combined headmaster, head football coach,” said Anderson. “When they were unable to find a candidate they were comfortable with they split the position back into two different positions.”

Gaylor had accepted the position in Montgomery before the decision was made to separate the two jobs.

Anderson comes into the position with seven years of administrative experience and 14 years of teaching experience.

“I hope to improve the academics and athletics,” said Anderson. “I want graduates that get their degree to attend any college or start any career they want comfortably.”
