Tiffanee Moore, was named Vaughan Regional Medical Center’s (VRMC) second ever recipient of the Daisy Award Friday morning at VRMC.
VRMC announced in May they would begin to present the award to a deserving nurse each quarter.
The Daisy Award was started by Mark Barnes in order to honor his late son Patrick.
In 1999, Patrick died due to Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). A new father of a two-month-old girl, Patrick only lived eight weeks after his diagnoses.
During those eight weeks though, Patrick and his family were given excellent care by his nurses, so Mark Barnes established the award to honor his son, and the caring nurses who took care of him.
“I’m just ecstatic,” said Moore. “I’m so proud. All of my hard work just really paid off.”
According to Merrill South, Regional Director of Marketing and Communications at VRMC, the Daisy award can be nominated by patients, hospital employees and family members.
“It is to recognize outstanding patient care,” said South “Tiffanee is an outstanding asset to our team and we couldn’t let this opportunity go by without recognizing her.”
“She’s extraordinary,” said Chief Nursing Officer Tracy Merry. “She really goes above and beyond. She’s the kind of nurse you wish you had 10 of.”
