Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson was elected to a high-profile position this week.

The Alabama District Attorneys Association has elected Jackson as the new Secretary of Treasurer for the 2019-2020 year.

“I’m honored to be chosen by the other District Attorneys for this important position,” Jackson said.

Jackson said his duties will be conducting meetings and signing checks dealing with the Alabama District Attorney Association and the office of Prosecution Services.

Jackson is also the Fourth Judicial Circuit District Attorney, representing Dallas, Perry, Bibb, Hale and Wilcox Counties.

For Jackson, his legal career began in 1990 with the Fourth Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office. He entered private practice in 1994 and became a Selma municipal judge a year later.  Jackson remained a judge until 1998.

In 2004, Jackson became the first African-American district attorney elected to the Fourth Judicial District. At the time, Jackson was only second African-American District Attorney in Alabama.

Jackson, 55, graduated from Centre College in 1985 with a double major in economics/management and government. He earned a law degree from Florida State University College of Law in 1988.

Jackson and his wife, Miah Jackson, have four children. Miah Jackson is currently a Selma City Councilwoman.
