October is a busy month.  In addition to many other important recognitions, it is also a time to thank our amazing school principals for their leadership.  They are real-life super heroes.

I have often said that being a principal is the hardest job in the world yet it is also the most rewarding and fun.  These dedicated educators deserve our support and our advocacy.  National Principals Month is a month-long event that occurs each October where school leaders are recognized and put in the spotlight for their tireless commitment to the continuous improvement of our schools.

Team Selma has no shortage of real-life super heroes who are leading our schools.  They make an impact as they touch the lives of every scholar within their charge.  Please join me this month in thanking our principals.

Leading our high school is Stoney Pritchett.  He is a Selma Saint to his heart and has an incredible way of connecting with his scholars and families.

Not far from Selma High School (SHS) is Taurus Smith leading Payne Elementary and their new STEAM Academy.  One of several principals who is also National Board Certified, her passion and expertise are evident as Payne achieved a letter grade of B and 100 percent growth on the most recent report card.

The Clark Elementary, is led by Dyphelia Thrash.  I love her passion to strive for a greater Clark and greater Selma through their Social Justice Academy.  The Reflection Garden will surely support our scholars as they learn and grow as civic leaders.

Sophia P. Kingston is led by the PAWsome Chemeria Evans.  She enhances the family environment at SPK and masters celebrating excellence.  Whether it’s Accelerated Reader rewards or Math Problem Solver of the Day, her scholars are pushed to excel and they continually meet the challenge.

Our newest Team Selma leader, Yosandra Lett hit the ground running at School of Discovery.  The Fab Lab is phenomenal and sets the bar high for what a maker space should be.  The GOAT All-Academic Team, Future Business Leaders of America and the upcoming study trip to NYC will make this a year to remember for our S.O.D. scholars.

These outstanding leaders are a major reason why Team Selma is making tremendous progress.  We have increased our academic achievement and growth.  Our district and school report cards are clear indicators that we are moving in the right direction.
