This week, we reported on how both school systems have seen significant improvement with both school systems receiving a 76.

While C’s are not where the school systems want to be, looking back on where they were shows a great deal of improvement.

The Selma School System (SCS) has seen an improvement over the past three years going from a 68/D in the 2016-2017 school year to a 72/C in 2017-2018 and, finally, to a 76/C in the 2018-2019 school year. In all, there has been an 8-point gain in the past three years.

Dallas County School System received a 70 for the 2016-2017 school year, a 73 for the 2017-2018 school year and a 76 for the 2018-2019 school year.

Both Superintendents Dr. Avis Williams and Hattie Shelton say there is still work to be done but both are hopeful of the improvements that the systems will continue to make.

In order for our area to become marketable, the school systems must continue to improve.

Families look for good school systems to bring their children to and making continual improvements is something that the superintendents and the rest of the school system should strive to do.

It is their duty to our community to continue to make efforts to improve and grow the school systems.
