In an effort to raise both awareness and money for the Dallas County Relay for Life event, The Selma Times-Journal has announced a special fundraiser.

Through the “We Give A Dime” campaign, the Times-Journal will donate 10 cents to Relay for LIfe for each Facebook fan registered on its Facebook page as of 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 31.

The Times-Journal’s Facebook fan page, at www.facebook.com/selmatimesjournal, already has more than 2,700 fans. If you count those fans already, the donation to Relay for Life is already over $270.

“We want to give much more,” Times-Journal editor Tim Reeves said. “This really is a fundraiser that has no limit attached. It’s potential is endless.”

As of 10 p.m. Thursday, March 3, the actual number registered on the Times-Journal’s fan page was 2,770.

“Facebook is just another tool for us to use each day in passing along news and information throughout the Black Belt region,” Reeves said. “If we’re able to grow the number of fans and help out Relay for Life at the same time, then that is a definite win-win.”

The “We Give A Dime” campaign is just part of the Times-Journal’s support for this year’s Relay effort.

“We have plenty more to announce in the coming weeks,” Reeves said.
