The Dallas County Board of Education held their final meeting of 2019 Monday evening in the Commissioners Chamber of the Dallas County Courthouse Annex.
Before the meeting concluded, DCBOE Chairman Leroy Miles passed the gavel to board member Roy Edwards, symbolizing a transfer of leadership.
Edwards will now serve as The DCBOE’s Chairman when the board meets again in January.
Before Miles passed the gavel he had a few words to share with the board about his experience as Chairman.
“I really appreciate you alls help,” said Miles. “This past year has been a great experience. I’ve learned a lot. I wouldn’t trade the experience of working with you guys for [anything]. I really appreciate the support and your help in guiding me through this process.”
Earlier in Monday’s meeting, Dallas County Schools Chief School Financial Officer (CSFO) Sandra Purdie reported that Dallas County Schools has met its one month reserve with $1,633,745.76 above the reserve amount.
“Of course we have to maintain that,” said Purdie.
DCBOE Board Member Bill Minor commended Purdie on a job well done.
Elsewhere in the meeting the board unanimously approved Superintendent Hattie Shelton’s recommendation to award a bid for three new maintenance trucks to Turner Chevrolet.
According to Shelton, the cost of each truck is $36,195.
