Alabama School of Math and Science (ASMS) senior Brianna Miles will host a “Lunch and Learn” for a wide range of students on Saturday at the Coffee Shoppe at 11:30 a.m.

ASMS is a residential high school located in Mobile.

Miles, who’s originally from Selma, wanted to share information about ASMS and colleges with the students of her hometown.

As a member of several leadership organizations, Miles thought about hosting the “Lunch and Learn” as a community service project,but then decided she wanted to “do it just to do it.”

“I just wanted to get the message across that you can be successful, no matter your background,” said Miles.

Miles says that Saturday’s event will be a “loose, unstructured chat” where she can have a casual conversation with students about the future of their education.

For younger students. Miles will share her ASMS experience and have information about how local students can apply.

“[ASMS] has been great for me,” said Miles. “I’ve matured and learned so much since I got here in 10^th grade.”

For those seeking to further their education, Miles will also be discussing several aspects of the college education process including financial aid, which Miles will bring in a guest speaker to discuss the finer points of.

“These are important things to know,” said Miles. “[Students] need to be ready.”

ASMS provided Miles with several ASMS-branded products to give away at the “Lunch and Learn” and the first three people who arrive Saturday will receive a Coffee Shoppe gift card.
