2011 Jubilee leaves positive vibe

The ride from Selma-to-Montgomery Monday put the cap on another successful Bridge Crossing Jubilee — the 18th — in celebration of the 46th anniversary of Bloody Sunday.
Despite forecasts of hazardous weather and a good 24 hours of rainfall, the organizers anticipated, overcame Mother Nature and moved venues inside. Crowds were not deterred.
Anyone who missed the bridge crossing Sunday afternoon, missed an opportunity to share in history and touch a bit of the future. Thousands came from all over the world to participate in this event. Among those notables were U.S. Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., U.S. Rep. Seny Hoyer, D-Md., attorney John Doar, Jessie Jackson and U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, of Congressional District 7, which includes Selma.
The organizers of the Bridge Crossing Jubilee worked long, hard hours to plan and carry out those plans for this event.
They were successful and should be applauded for their hard work and smooth follow-through.
The Bridge Crossing Jubilee is one of the largest tourist draws to Selma. It has been successful once again, and we should thank the organizers for bringing those folks to the Queen City.
We’re looking forward to next year.
