The upcoming baseball and softball season headlined Valley Grande’s City Council meeting.
Valley Grande Parks and Recreation Director Bubba Holley addressed the council at Monday’s meeting.
Holley told the council that 217 kids have signed up to play either t-ball, baseball or softball during the spring and summer. He said the number is 50 kids lower than the total at this point last year.
“The number is smaller due mainly to kids playing in school or travel ball,” Holley said. “You can’t play on two teams at once.”
Holley said several parents contacted him about signing up a few days past the January 31 deadline. Holley said he plans to have another signing date for parents in the near future.
Holley also said that the uniforms should be ready for opening day. Last season was slightly delayed because the uniforms didn’t arrive on time.
Councilwoman Tammy Troha discussed repairing the fence at the walking trail. She plans to get a price and address it at a future council meeting.
The entire council was present: Mayor Matt Dobbs, councilmen Ronald Sawyer, Jimmy Johnson, Lamar Morgan, Tim White, councilwoman Troha and city clerk Janet Frasier.
The next Valley Grande City council meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 18 at 6 p.m. because of President’s Day.
