Every year, Mardi Gras is celebrated throughout in New Orleans, Mobile and other cities across the country with masks, beads, parades and king cakes.
Sky Hill Animal Society and Selma’s Purrrfect Pals will host their own “Mardi Paws” celebration next Monday, Feb. 25, with traditional New Orleans cuisine and a fundraiser to benefit the Selma Animal Shelter Adoption Program.
For $10, supporters can choose from chicken and sausage gumbo or red beans and rice.
Both meals come with Cajun cornbread and praline fudge.
Meals can be picked up next Monday at Blue Jean Church, located at 1209 Selma Ave., during lunch from noon – 6 p.m. or dinner from 4-6 p.m.
This is the second year of Mardi Paws and according to Purrrfect pals director Shannon Lynch.
Lynch said that last year’s event was successful, and the group thought they’d do it again this year.
“It’s a really good cause and you get a great meal,” said Lynch. “Where else can you get a meal like this for only $10 dollars?”
According to Lynch, all proceeds help ensure animals are spayed, neutered, microchipped and ready to be adopted.
