Central Alabama Regional Child Advocacy Center has cancelled its annual Pinwheel Garden plantings because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event honors child abuse victims and raise awareness in its service region, Bibb County, Dallas County, Hale County, Perry County and Wilcox County.
At the event, people plant Pinwheel Gardens as each pinwheel represents a child involved in an abuse investigation during the year. April is Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month.
“We are very sad that we won’t be able to gather to plant pinwheels with our Dallas County friends,” CARCAC Executive Director Lauri Cothran said.
Cothran also said Dallas County residents can still get involved. The public is invited to “plant” pinwheels in the Garden at 420 Broad Street, post pictures to the CARCAC’s social media pages, and help raise awareness throughout the month.
“We hope when people take their pinwheels to the Garden they will take a moment to think about what each one represents,” Cothran said. “We are very concerned about at risk children in our area during this incredibly stressful time.”
