The Concordia Lady Hornets is a team that is learning.

With 11 freshmen, many of who are playing softball for the very first time in college, each game brings changes and new challenges.

After the Lady Hornets fell 22-1 Saturday to East Central Community College, Concordia head coach Curtis Wimberly said he could see improvement in the way his girls were playing.

“The future is bright for us,” Wimberly said. “We are in the fourth year of our program, but we have had a bunch of issues with people leaving school. Now we have a good group of freshmen who play and that can only help later on.”

In the Judson College Spring Tournament, the Lady Hornets have been able to go up against several good teams over the past three days.

“This has been great,” Wimberly said. “Every game here is a learning experience. You get to see a lot of good people that you play against. It’s real helpful for these girls who aren’t used to playing that much.”

In Saturday’s first game against ECCC, the Lady Hornets fell behind quickly in the first inning, with the Lady Warriors jumping out to a 11-0 lead before the third out was tallied.

The Lady Hornets were able to score in the bottom half of the second inning, but from there, the results continued to go ECCC’s way.

“We are working hard,” Wimberly said. “That’s all you can ask right now as they learn. Like I said, our future is bright and were are gonna be back and continue getting better.”
