A former Selma High School Girls basketball star and Wallace Community College-Selma women’s player was arraigned Thursday in the Dallas County Courthouse for drug trafficking.

Aaliyah Tyanna Hatcher, 18, was arraigned on charges of drug trafficking, drug excise tax and drug fraud, according to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson.

Dallas County District Court Bob Armstrong reduced Hatcher’s bond from $1.5 million to $15,000. Hatcher made bond and was released Thursday.

“Judge Armstrong stated that Hatcher was a college student and not a flight risk, that’s why he lowered her bond to that amount,” Jackson said.

Hatcher will be represented by Wilcox County defense attorney Elliot Lipinksy, who said they will enter a plea of not guilty.  Hatcher’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 7 at 1:30 p.m. in the Dallas County Courthouse.

Hatcher was arrested Tuesday night by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office at the 100 block of Alabama Avenue. Dallas County Deputies discovered 8.2 pounds of marijuana, cash and a scale inside Hatcher’s car.  Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum said the package marijuana and edible marijuana, made from cereal bars and candy, weighed 8.2 pounds.

“There’s THC actually infused to cereal. They tried to disguise it, as far as, maybe Cap’n Crunch or Apple Jacks,” Granthum said. “If it wasn’t labeled or you didn’t know what you were looking for, you would think it was just a common snack. Maybe, like a Rice Crispy treat.”

Last year, Hatcher was a member of The Selma Times-Journal All Dallas County Girls basketball team and completed her freshman season at WCCS.
