Selma High School’s class of graduating seniors traveled to campus Monday afternoon to pick up their graduation yard signs and a goody bag as they were celebrated by the Selma High Staff.
Selma High Principal Stoney Pritchett said it was important to celebrate the school’s graduating seniors amongst the disappointment students have experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The seniors have lost so much. Our prom, a normal graduation and just hanging out with their friends and teachers in the building.” He said. “We just want to show them that we really care about them.”
As Selmians drove by the campus Monday afternoon, many honked their car horns in support of the SHS Class of 2020.
“It means the world to have the community rally behind us,” said Pritchett. “It gives me chills. The kids are loving it and the staff is loving it.”
Though many details are still being worked out, Pritchett said there would indeed be a graduation ceremony for the class of 2020 on June 20.
Pritchett said the graduation ceremony would follow a drive-in format, but the location and time of the ceremony have yet to be determined.
