Morgan Academy golfer Jones Free is in position to win the 75th Alabama Boys State Junior Golf Championship.
Free is two shots off the lead entering the final round Thursday at Goose Pond Colony Resort in Scottsboro.
A rising senior at Morgan Academy, Free’s two-day total of 137 places him in a fourth-place tie with Trent Trousdale. Max Johnson and Kenneth Okins are both tied for first at 9-under. Gregory Jones is third at 8-under.
Free shot a 1-under-par-71 in the first round Tuesday. He rebounded with a 6-under-par-66 in the second round on Wednesday.
“I made good putts on the front nine Tuesday,” Free said. “After the rain delay, I couldn’t get a putt to fall. I had a good round Wednesday. I hit the ball well. I feel good going into the final round Thursday.”
Free, a University of Alabama verbal commitment, will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
