Jimmy Holliman was raised on a cotton farm in the Mississippi Delta, but his life has always been with cattle.
Holliman, who has owned Circle H Cattle Farm in Marion Junction since 1982, was recently elected as the Vice President of the Alabama Cattlemen Association at the ACA’s meeting on Feb. 12.
“I was an honor to be nominated and selected obviously,” Holliman said. “It’s one of those things that you are elected vice president, then become president-elect and then president.”
Holliman worked with cattle all of his life.
He has been employed by Auburn University at the Black Belt Experiment Station in Marion Junction since 1975.
He was the on of the first Alabama cattle farmers to own Black Simmental, he has worked as president of the Beef Improvement Federation and regional vice president of the ACA.
“I have worked with a lot of different organizations in cattle, I love it, I love the science of it,” Holliman said. “As vice president I will be serving on the State Executive Board, like is normally the duties of a vice president for any company or organization.”
Holliman’s other duties include spreading the word in different meetings to build up memebership to the ACA.
“The lifeblood of any organization is its membership,” Holliman said. “Right now, in Alabama we are at 11,000 members and, ideally, we would like to be at about 12,000.”
As Holliman works his way up the ladder into different positions, he expects to take on a bigger role.
“Obviously as president elect you have more responsibility, then once you are president you take on 64 counties worth of responsibilities,” said Holliman.
“It’s a lot of work, but I’m excited about it.”
