The Selma Water Works and Sewer Board recently released a public service announcement reminding everyone to cooperate with utility workers on their property.
Fourth judicial Circuit District Attorney Michael Jackson said he has not heard of many problems with people interfering with workers and they hope to keep it that way.
“We got together on this and they asked us to inform the public,” Jackson said. “We haven’t really seen a lot of problems, we just want to make sure our workers are safe when they are working out there.”
The announcement reminds residents effective July 1, 2010 it is a Class C felony to prevent a utility worker from performing a lawful duty and if a physical injury is suffered by the utility worker.
The announcement encourages the public to “be courteous and as kind as the utility worker who is working to make it better for you. Protect them so they can protect you. Show them respect. They will always show you respect.”
For any questions, Jackson said residents should call his office at 874-2540.
