A guilty plea Friday by Donte Carter for burglary third degree netted a 15-year sentence, District Attorney Michael Jackson said.
Jackson said the sentence is a statement that these crimes will not be tolerated in the district.
“We are going to keep shipping these burglars and thieves off to prison for a long time,” he said.
On Dec. 21, 2008 officers responded to a 911 call in reference to a burglary at 1124 Alabama Ave., which is On Time Fashion.
Jackson said upon arriving on the scene officers found the front door damaged and the store owner was notified.
When the store owner arrived, Jackson said he said there was an unknown amount of merchandise taken from the store including clothes and jewelry.
Two suspects were seen on the security camera.
When Carter was later interviewed, he said he entered the store, took the merchandise and hid it behind the store.
He later carried the merchandise to his Lauderdale Street home.
