UNIONTOWN — Law enforcement agencies in Perry County appeared to still be scrambling for details surrounding an early morning shooting at a Uniontown area nightclub that left one dead and at least five others short, and likely more.

What has been made official is that 29-year-old Lamont Williams, 29 of Uniontown, is in the Perry County Jail in connection with the shooting at Lee’s Country Inn nightclub on Perry County Road 1 in Uniontown.

Throughout most of the day, law enforcement agencies in Uniontown and those with the Perry County Sheriff’s Department were unable to even clearly state which agency had responded to the shooting, or which agency was leading the investigation.

Attempts to reach Uniontown Chief of Police Donald Rhodes or Perry County Sheriff James Hood were unsuccessful. The Times-Journal made numerous calls to both agencies throughout the day Monday.

The Times-Journal did learn late in the day Monday the Alabama Bureau of Investigation had taken the lead in the investigation

According to District Attorney Michael Jackson, Williams was arrested after firing several shots outside the nightclub.

The shots left Orrville native Jonathan M. Butler, 22, dead and at least five others injured. Officials “believe” there are two other victims, but were not set to confirm their status Monday.

Jackson said his office and the ABI are continuing to investigate the events surrounding the case.

“We are still getting the details together on this incident,” Jackson said.

Miller Funeral Service of Selma announced it was handling Butler’s arrangements and that they would be announced later once they have been finalized.
