District 2 Dallas County Commissioner Roy Moore was presented with an award from the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama (ACCA) during Monday’s Dallas County Commission meeting.

Moore, first elected to the Commission in 1992, was recognized by the ACCA for 28 years as a county commissioner.

After being recognized Monday, Moore took a moment to reflect on some of the projects he was involved with his nearly three decades serving on the commission including renovations to the Dallas County Jail, the construction of a new DHR facility and the Dallas County Sportsplex and paying off approximately $1.6 million debt.

“This county is in better financial condition than it’s ever been,” said Moore.

Moore also offered words of advice to the three incoming County Commissioners who will be sworn in on Nov. 11, suggesting they focus efforts on restoring the county’s roads.

Finally, Moore took a moment to compliment his colleagues on the current Dallas County Commission, speaking highly of their ability to work together despite the differences in opinion they sometimes have.

“We work together as a commission and we work [our differences] out,” said Moore. “We don’t come up here and fuss and fight. We come here with our marbles in one pile, and that’s the way we operate.”

Dallas County Probate Judge and Commission Chairman Jimmy Nunn compared Moore’s 28 years of experience as a commissioner to food that has been slow-cooked for a long time.

“There are some things you just can’t microwave,” he said.
